Peer-to-Peer when online

When both devices are online, messages and files transfer directly between them. Nothing passes through any cloud server.

✉️

Offline messaging

If your friend is offline, text messages are queued on our secure relay (encrypted in transit) and delivered as soon as they come back online. Files always go peer-to-peer, never to the cloud.

💻

Sync across your own devices, too

Sign in on both your phone and desktop with the same account to transfer photos directly between them — no cloud upload, no quality loss. The desktop also acts as your always-on file relay (so friends can fetch files anytime) and keeps a full local backup of every message and photo. Perfect if you shoot on phone and edit on desktop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my messages and photos go through your server?

When both devices are online, no — they go directly peer-to-peer using an end-to-end connection. When the recipient is offline, text messages are temporarily held on our message broker (TLS-encrypted in transit) and delivered when they reconnect. Photos and files never touch our server.

What happens if my friend is offline when I send something?

Text messages will reach them as soon as they come back online — they are queued on our broker for up to 30 days. Files require the recipient to be online to download. If they need the file later, simply leave a desktop user as your always-on relay (see below).

Why do files require both sides to be online?

We don't store your files on any server — they go device to device. This keeps the service free of cloud-storage costs and ensures only you and your friends can access your files. The trade-off is that real-time file delivery needs both ends connected.

What's the recommended setup?

Keep one desktop or laptop installed and signed in. It will act as an always-on file relay — friends can fetch files at any time even if your phone is asleep — and it automatically holds a complete local backup of every message and photo you ever shared.

Can I use the app to send photos from my phone to my own desktop?

Yes. Sign in to the same account on both devices. Photos sent in any chat or shared album will sync directly between them, full resolution, peer-to-peer. This is a popular workflow for users who shoot on a phone and edit or back up on a desktop — no cloud service, no upload limits, no compression.

Where is my data backed up?

Backup happens locally on each device you sign in on. There is no automatic cloud backup. A desktop with the app installed is the simplest way to keep a full record of your conversations and media.

How is my account identified across platforms?

Your account and any subscription you purchase are tied to the email address you sign in with. To use the same account across mobile and desktop — and to keep your subscription active across platforms — make sure you sign in with the same email everywhere. Signing in with a different email creates a separate account with its own friends, albums, and subscription.

How do you handle privacy?

We never read or scan your photos and messages. See our Privacy Policy for details.
